Houseplants persist in to increase in popularity with sale of this category up by 15 % year on class . Christmas family see unassailable growth in 2018 with December 2018 sales 9 % up on December 2017 .

In November , for the first time in 2 years , middling remuneration growth overtake the inflation rate . In December , we saw inflation go forward to fall whilst wage growth remained stable . This is a more positive position for consumers who then have more disposable income to spend on their garden .

However , challenge do lie in ahead . vexation over Brexit softwood and the UK ’s economic situation rest , with consumers less confident and looking to salve more than last year .

Outdoor plantsAlso the sales in outdoor works continued to rule other category for a third calendar month running in December ( 2018 ) allot to the Garden Centre Association ’s Barometer of Trade ( BoT ) report .

Sales were up 17.73 % compare to the late year ( 2017 ) .

In a calendar month where Christmas and endowment sales event incline to dominate the categories , it was really interesting to see that outdoor plant cut-rate sale come out on top instead .

Of course , it was all down to the peachy British weather as there was a much milder festive season than usual , so people were able to spend longer sorting out their plots and ready for the new season .

Christmas sales did pick up after a poor November and were up 6.54 % . Gift sales were also up 2.39 % compare to the previous class .

Houseplant sales were up 8.12 % and seed and bulb sales were up 3.64 % .

Sales in garden sundries were up 5.83 % and difficult landscaping sale were up 12.21 % .

Iain added : “ Non - traditional family still do relatively well during the month . nutrient hall and farm shop sales were up 9.9 % , clothing was up 4.44 % and catering sale were up 11 % . ”

piece of furniture and barbecue gross revenue were down -8.93 % and sales agreement in pet and aquatics were down -2.36 % .

Overall sale for the month were up 6.8 % with a year to date modification of 1.27 % .
