Spring has sprung in the South!

For all you northern gardeners who are getting crazy of waiting for spring , rent ’s take a trip down to the south , where springiness color is in full swinging !

Caroline Williams is enjoying her spring efflorescence in Louisiana . She has been gardening at her present location for 26 years . Each year comes with new problem ; some of her solutions are successes , and some are failures , but one thing she has learned is to never give up — that there is more than one means to do a thing and that she must always essay , stress , and try again . This class she is especially proud of her tulips . She tried something different and planted them in an sometime tub ; her reward is an awesome display of ravisher . In the futurity , she will be planting more bulb / bloom in old tubs or other creative containers .

A large dish magnolia ( Magnolia × soulangeana , Zones 4–9 ) in full bloom presides over the honest-to-god bathtub , which is overflowing with extravagantly colored tulips .

Tulips do that productive scarlet shadowiness so very well . In their native habitat , the wild ancestors of garden tulip use their red color to appeal the beetles that pollenate their flowers . In the garden , that brilliant color works just as well to lure humans into cultivating them !

Bright orange , square gently into yellow .

A soft , finespun pinkish contrast with the riot of colors around it .

This is perhaps my best-loved color for a tulip — warm pinkish blend into orange , looking like some kind of alien tropical fruit . It ’s just the thing you need to celebrate the reaching of bounce .

When it comes to tulips , more is more ! Plant stacks , and plant them near together like this so they can make one vivid , over - the - top showing .
