Waterwise and beautiful
Hi ! I ’m Tracy , gardening in the East Bay , California , Zone 9b . I ’ve done 100 % of the planting here ; the infinite behind the house was just a mint of mud when we move in . Oh , the possibilities ! The front garden was full of distinctive Modern lodging plantings and Gunter Grass , which I have completely transfer .
The strawberry tree(Arbutus‘Marina ’ , Zones 7–9 ) may have been the first thing I embed in theslopein the back .
Because it is so very dry here , I recently did the intact slope as adry garden . The plantings are all under a couple of years .

Dry gardens do n’t need to be wearisome . Here , varioussucculentsgrow in colorful Inachis io planters .
The dry garden is on the right , with bedwetter perennial gardens on the left hand . The magniloquent bearded yucca(Yuccarostrata , Zones 7–10 ) make a striking statement in the dry garden .
The wide-eyed diversity of forms , colors , and form of succulent andcactusmakes the dry garden endlessly interesting .

A cluster of magniloquent cactus makes averticalelement , contrasting with the roundgolden barrel cactus(Echinocactus grusonii , Zones 9–11 ) .
The dry garden runs down aright to the puddle .
This ponytail palm(Beaucarnea recurvata , Zones 9–11 ) was a freebee from half a mile away that I spotted in a crack slew . The owner gladly permit me handtruck the ponytail palm away , and it is an excellent show-stopper for the slope .

View down the incline , showing the spacious chain ofsucculents , including a couple more favorable gun barrel cactus
A tallAloe‘Hercules ’ ( zona 9–11 ) is another favourite . It will finally grow to form almost a modest Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree .
Tracy place so many majuscule exposure that we ’ll return to her garden next week and explore her perennial bed .
