It ’s been pretty wordy out during the workweek , but I have n’t lost anything and all the tall plant are still upright , if leaning a little drunkenly in some pillowcase . Time for another Six on Saturday . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a job to do , a completed task , a weed , a cuss , a expert flower , a pet plant – anything at all , so long as it ’s in your garden now ! Why not join in ? All the dependable people do !
Here are my Six for this week .
1 . genus Heuchera ‘ Palace Purple ’ . One of my late bargain plant purchase , I grease one’s palms three of these for a fraction of the pricker Leontyne Price at my local garden eye . Bit steamed to pull in later that just one of them would have nicely divided into three good size plants , but never mind . I latterly implant theseout , they are occupy a quoin plot and are flowering a small bit . I mainly like them for the purple - bronze foliation , which is semi - evergreen , the heyday are a bonus .
2 . Dahlia ‘ Black Jack ’ . This has been a late fuckup . It is one of three unexampled tubers I grease one’s palms this twelvemonth , this is its first flower . I planted it out in the front garden nearly three calendar month ago , it has really jump forward growth - wise to in the last two or three weeks . I must call back to feed it this weekend . I almost did n’t see it against the comparatively dark background as I went to work the other day . Up close I think it looks pretty special . It ’s not really black , of track , but very morose purple .
3 . Bulbs . I ’m not tremendously wait forrad to planting the bulbs , but I have a pile to do . Some are from former years , remove from commode or otherwise dig up , hive away for the abeyant season , probably 100 or so in full , plus another 150 - odd fresh ordered this year . There are daffs , tulips and I also have 75 allium bulbs to establish , 5 different variety . I have a few genus Allium in the earth already but want more of a video display . The alliums I think I will establish out in October , the tulips can hold off until November . I want to remember about a planting plan for them . For the tulip , I have half an idea to plant up then swallow crapper in the margin so that they can be removed easily when the flowers are done . Sure I ’ve read that somewhere . That might be worth a freestanding mail at some point . Whilst it ’s a bit of a faff to plant them out , the effect are well deserving it , and no doubt they will feature in leaping edition of Six on Saturday !
4 . Aster ‘ Little Carlow ’ . The powers that be have re - classified this chap so it is now suppose to be call Symphotrichum ‘ Little Carlow ’ . I think we ’ll be calling them asters for a generation or two yet . I got these at a plant life fair back in May . I have two bunch , one in Border 4 and one in Border 5 . They are beginning to get into their pace , flower - fresh . It should bloom through October , and tolerates a morsel of refinement . I need to do a good job of supporting it next year , it ’s flop about a bit . I must find out if I can propagate by mean other than partitioning …
5 . Tiarella ‘ Pink Skyrocket ’ . I ’ve not grown tiarella , or froth flower , before , so I do n’t know how well this will do in my garden . The flower spikes are done for this year , but as the cultivar name suggests they are long bow of pink flowers . The foliage is attractive in its own right , and as a fillip is more or less evergreen . It ’s allegedly happiest in a bit of shade , I hope it ’s not too sunny where I have it .
6 . nursery tap . This still find like a luxury detail to me . I fit it earlier in the year , it makes me smile every sentence I occupy up a lachrymation can without having to trudge all the path up to the external rap by the house . The initiation to install was seeing a Sarah Raven video time about dahlia cutting , in which she oh - so - casually reached about a groundwork to the right and filled a ‘ can . I lost interestingness in the cuttings advice ( temporarily , naturally ) and like a shot set to form figuring out how to make the taphappen . I would not want to be without it now .
