Some favorite blooms
Today ’s photos are from Lynette Rodriguez .
My hubby and I garden professionally in northern Illinois , Zone 5b . Together we have more than 60 years of horticulture experience ranging fromgeneral maintenanceto individual acres direction . The photos I am submitting today were all taken at one of the properties we keep . Generally , the perennial gardens are our realm ; however , this place is a minibotanical garden , so I spend a decent amount of timephotographingthe shrubbery and ornamental on the holding . Working for a plant buff who gather a singular collection of plants has been a marvelous experience for us . We will continue to rear the collection and groom the gardens for as long as we can .
As I was writing the caption for these picture , I noticed that I had selected many industrial plant with sweetfragrances ; perchance that is one reason I love these industrial plant so much .

Clematis‘Huldine ’ ( geographical zone 4–10 ) has proven to be one of the most reliable and floriferousClematiswe grow on a tall chainlink fence that surrounds a tennis court . The vine needs assist , as it is not the best twiningClematis , but it can spring up 10 ft in one time of year and blooms for several week .
Magnoliastellata(Zones 4–9 ) is a harbinger of spring and a perfume slug . There are three flora in this grouping that are allprunedto keep up their size and shape .
I ’m a self-aggrandising devotee ofDeutzia gracilis(slender deutzia , zone 5–8 ) . Although in a fair amount of fullshade , the plant has always provided an sizeable display of flower in the difficult stage setting it has been send in .

Halesiacarolina(Zones 4–8 ) might be the most underutilized ornamental in the Chicagoland area . Thesmall treeis easy to produce and is very flamboyant when in flower .
Exchorda , or pearlbush , is another unparalleled flora that does n’t get much attention . I believe the one located on this property is anExchorda macrantha(Zones 5–9 ) eccentric , but I am not positive on that . The plant itself can count a bit gangly , but the peak overturn the slowness of this shrub .
Viburnumplicatumf.tomentosum‘Shasta ’ ( zona 5–8 ) is a bush that I require in all my landscapes because it ’s such a giver ! Shape , flush , fruits , fall gloss — who could inquire a plant for more ? It is a hatful to lay eyes on when it is in full bloom , especially when paired , as in this photograph , withHosta‘Mediovariegata ’ ( Zones 3–9 ) .

A few class ago I was task with tally double white lily to the perennial border . Lilium‘Aisha ’ ( Zones 3–9 ) is a bunch pleaser . She is fragrant , the perfect meridian ( 3 to 3.5 metrical unit ) , bloom for an over-the-top amount of clock time , and possess a clearness that is grueling to miss . ‘ Aisha ’ is a fabulous double oriental roselily .
Hostaplantaginea(Zones 3–9 ) seems like a insouciant plant most of the summer ; it fills space with glossy fleeceable foliage from spring to previous summertime untilAugust , when it sends up scapes of virginal white-hot flowers that scent the tune . I be given to incur ways to forge near the hosta bed when these beauties are in flower .
Echinaceapurpurea‘PowWow White ’ ( Zones 4–9 ) is establish to be an excellent white coneflower in our garden . We love the smaller stature and the dependableness . Thepollinatorslike it too .

Gladiolusmurielae(Abyssinian glad , Zones 6–9 ) has been a favorite attendant bulb of mine for many old age . I do n’t take care digging the medulla oblongata and storing them each yr . The swordlike leafage and the alone flowers , along with the arresting fragrance , make thisbulba steward in the garden .
