Today ’s photos are from an old friend ofFine Gardening – Kathy Diemer , who was our editorial helper days ago ! Kathy was a natural spring of outstanding gardening knowledge back then , and still is today . I encounter into her a couple of workweek ago and begged her to send in some current photos of her garden and she oblige .
She says,“Here are some images from my garden direct in former June of last year . The gardens incubate approximately two acres of former plowland in Zone 5 in Sherman , Connecticut . When we moved here twenty years ago , the holding was full of weeds , invasive shrubs , and toss out tractor part . It has taken a lot of work , but with biodiversity in nous , I have create multiple garden throughout the property that have retain to thrive even during difficult full point of drought .
“ The function of many native perennial and shrubs , along with some decorative non - indigene , has resulted in gardens that are relatively humbled alimony ( no pesticides , fertilizing , or watering ) as well as seasonally interesting . Because I maintain all of the gardens , it is imperative that most of the plant be well-to-do care . A stream run through the entire property , so I ’ve been persevering about using only native wetland shrubs and flora along the bank to belittle erosion , while preventing the spread of invasives .

“ There are hundreds of visitant to the garden every day , revel the berries and the habitats create for them . I hope the image will show that although it is betimes in the season ( June ) , a garden can really shine without much human intercession . ”
