Propagation
I ’ve had my center on one of these since last year some time . I miss some big hint before Christmas and was a lucky son . It ’s add byGreenhouse hotshot , the same common people that supply Vitopod if you ’re familiar with that .
The Hydropod is intended to overcome a few issues often go through by a distinctive nurseryman when attempting to propagate by cutting .

The design exploit aeroponics , a concept which first came on the view in the early 1900s , but was not developed commercially until the 1980s . Fun fact , the first commercially available building block was called the Genesis Machine , named after a convenience in Star Trek II – Wrath of Khan . That was a swell flick . “ The need of the many preponderate the need of the few ” . Totes emosh .
Anyway , where was I ? Unlike hydroponics which bank on a liquid nutrient base for take root instead of stain , in aeroponics just a o.k. mist is provided . The roots ( finally ) , stem and crown of the flora are all exposed to the atmosphere , meaning that the roots have easy accession to the oxygen they need for ontogenesis . At one metre the supplier recommended using some nutrient with the water system , but on testing they found it made no departure to the rooting – just water is used now . When I have rootle cuttings quick to pot on , I ’ll feed from that point as normal .
The building block is made up of a reservoir tank , a tray of froth disks into which the clipping are inserted , and a clear hat . The vital bit of outfit is the pump and spray unit . The ticker is attach to the bottom of the army tank with gull launch pad and the spray unit fits to the pump . The tank is a seemly size , it took two large watering cans to fill it to the maximum level . When the pump is operating , a fine mist is sprayed out which ceaselessly coat the stems of the cuttings .

It does ask a continuous supply of electricity but the pump has a low power valuation , it does n’t pull much succus , peradventure a penny or two a 24-hour interval to consort . The optimium operate temperature is 18 - 20 deg . It is possible to grease one’s palms a smoke for the tank , basically an aquarium heater , but I have n’t incommode . I have the social unit sitting in my heated bench which should provide a piece of warmth . In fact my main worry is it getting too hot over the summer . A second of nicety textile should help .
The foam disk hold the individual cut . They each have a cunt on one spoke which transfix the bow .
Regular readers will be unsurprised to find I have been greedy and go for a 40 - disk unit . As you’re able to see , it is perfectly possible to double up , two per foam record , thus having up to 80 cuttings rooting away . Judging by the reviews and some chat I ’ve had on twitter , the final result are jolly well , much more reliable and ready than the common methods . That sounds like a challenge right there – perhaps I should be running a trial .

The supplier says that it can be used for all eccentric of cutting , even hardwood . I ’m a bit doubting about that , but I plan to give it a try later in the yr . For right on now I am just keen to see whether and how quick things take root in this gizmo . At the moment I have the following cuttings in there , just taken in the last few days :
I ’m worked up to see how this hatful do . And remember kids , there ’s no such thing as too many plants !
I ’ll be back in a few weeks with an update , hopefully roots will be need …
