volaille sexual urge is pretty interesting . The turn , the results , and the difference between genders . Most people empathise that hen rest eggs and cock do the crowing and climb . Well , really most people just buy eggs at the grocery store and do n’t give chicken sexual activity much cerebration . But , for those of you that raise Gallus gallus or are conceive raising chickens , this post might change your ideas about the gender of chickens .
We are suburbanite chicken cutter with a small mixed flock of ball pose hens . Our trivial great deal was post - say 3 years ago , and for a while was a grouping of 6 highly fertile egg layers . Our well performing biddy , without a doubt , was our Marans name Blue . She was one of our first pullets to lay an egg , and everyday following she lay another beautiful , huge , dark brown eggs . I was amazed by her production ! I severalize all of my volaille loving friends that they should invest in one of the high price varieties of Marans chicks . I still cerebrate that Marans breeds are fabulous chickens . But , our girl blue air was probably far too extreme and not an illustration of the typical Marans bed . When our other hen molted Blue did not link them , she just hold on laying . She laid everyday , without fail , for probably well over a year . Then she just check .
She did n’t take a break to molt or get broody . She just simply resign . After several months we just decided she must have burned herself out by over producing . Her sweet disposition and beauty earned her a lasting place in the chicken yard even if she was n’t producing eggs . Blue was a ducky , not in the “ house chicken ” domestic fowl diaper sense ( I ca n’t fathom those chicken arrangements ) . But , she was cuddly and funny . We liked her enough to keep her around no matter what ,

After a year of no egg production we starting noticing Blue ’s transformation . The first thing we noticed , she got immense . Our 7 lb hen capture magniloquent suddenly and plausibly put on an additional 2 lbs . Next , she started growing great spur track . Thankfully our girl love us and never thought to utilise her raw arm . Six months into her conversion it was obvious from her better-looking waddles and gallant combing that our girl Blue had become our Boy Blue . The modification was made official by the sound of some very inapt vaporing .
We figured she had some case of hormonal issues , so I started doing some research . While it is not a rare happening for hens to arise spurs , it is a very rarified thing for them to show all of the main traits of a cock . When this does happen it often occurs due to accidental injury or cysts / neoplasm on the left ovary .
The how and why of our Gallus gallus sexual urge alteration was very interesting to me . I am not a scientific person so I am operate to describe this plainly and simply . Basically , hen have one ovary that handles all of the work in ballock production . If that ovary gets damaged it can block up produce . The diametrical ovary can then touch off and come out release testosterone , becoming what is known as an ovotestis . The ovotestis sign the change in sexual trait . It does n’t go on often . But , every hen has the potential difference to become a Roo . Well , at least mostly . These trans chickens do not typically father offspring . This connectedness explain the change in a bit more detail : https://www.google.com / amp / s / poultry.extension.org / articles / poultry - form / avian - generative - female person / sex - reverse - in - chickens - kept - in - small - and - backyard - flocks/%3famp

The sex change process unluckily for our Blue , was get by either neoplasm or cyst . A few month after her conversion she starting waddling with her belly full of growth . She went down hill pretty quick . She lost her recently make muscle mass , her feathers lost their sheen , and she starting isolating herself from the flock . She eventually needed helper see her way over the chicken rainbow bridge .
She was a great crybaby that by all odds added interest to the flock , and she will be remembered for years to number . Our family purchased a canoe around the time Blue passed . We decided that “ Our Girl Blue ” would be a perfect name for our picayune green Wenonah .
We just refer our canoe after a numb chicken . Hmmmmm ? Maybe I should n’t roll my eyes at the gaga people with house chicken . We just might be in the same boat .
