Spring is here and it ’s time to part getting your CedarCraft planters ready ! You have them assembled and it was a snap . But now it follow down to the dirty work – fill them with filth . You may be wondering , how much soil do I require to replete this ?
You may have read ourprevious blog place on Soil 101for container gardening . That spot gave you some insights on why your container soil is so important for your garden plantation owner and that you should n’t dig up dirt from your thou to fill your enkindle layer .
This weekend our CedarCraft team assembled our plantation owner collection and filled them all with a container gardening mix . We ’re going to give you some dance step - by - step instructions on what you need to do to satisfy your planters .

Calculate Cubic Volume
First you need to break out the calculator and work out out how much soil your planter needs . you may find a plethora of gardening calculating machine from a childlike Google search . Here ’s a ready to hand calculator onHome Depot ’s site .
To determine how much grime you require to fill your planter or raised bottom , these are the property you involve for your formula :
Length ( in inches ) x Width ( in inch ) x Depth ( in inch ) = total amount of cubic feet or cubic yard of soil . ( 12 three-dimensional feet of grunge = 0.444 cubic yards of soil )

We ’ve made it even easy for you ! If you take a feel at our collection description , we have three-dimensional feet of stain capacity for each plantation owner listed :

Fill With The Right Mix
Now that you know how much filth you need , you need to know whatkindof grime to fill it with .
Since our team filled each planter in our whole collection , we visted our local commercial-grade soil source recommended by landscapers and contractors . We needed a lot of soil and it fill up our truck bed ! If you have one or two planters , you wo n’t call for to go to these lengths .
We used a grime mixture with 60 % surface soil and 40 % compost , and then added an additional 10 % vermiculite to that . With shovels in hand , we poured the vermiculite into the hand truck seam on top of the soil and vex to work mixing !

With smaller projects , you may pour your soil mixes onto a tarpaulin and splay . you may also make your ownMel ’s Mixwe mentioned in our Soil 101 post with this recipe :
Before you supply ground to your plantation owner , verify you have your ocean liner in place . You will need landscape gardening material for your Elevated and Raised Garden plantation owner .
