A unique museum with a garden at its center
Today Teresa Watkins is taking us to confab a very unusual garden .
After Christmas , I was in Massachusetts to interview garden author Jana Milbocker for my wireless showBetter Lawns and Gardens . During the consultation , Jana told us that we needed to jaw theIsabella Stewart Gardner Museumwhen we fit into Boston . Despite the infamous Gardner Heist , a $ 600 million theft of fine art that occurred in 1990 , I had never find out of the museum . I did n’t foresee the unbelievable awe and intensity that I would feel walking through this turning point art museum . go steady the monumental collection of Mrs. Gardner , a flush Bohemian altruist who go the existence in lookup of treasure , I plump from room to room almost speechless . I do n’t think I stopped gasp the entire fourth dimension we were there . Although we come in the afternoon , we were able to delight strolling the courtyard with its alien and lucullan tropic works incase in the four - tarradiddle , glass - roof , all - time of year hothouse . Dusk get in early in winter in Boston , so the ignition was blind , but I still enjoyed catch the internal landscape with night kindling and was capable to take over 300 photographs in three hour . The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum has something to imprint everyone , from museum antiquities to interior lush landscaping . It ’s a must - see plosive consonant for anyone chit-chat Boston .
Looking down into the courtyard from one of the balconies palisade it

It ’s hard to believe this is Boston in December ; the background transports you to another Earth .
The inside is sate with beautiful plants , like this Norfolk island pine(Araucaria heterophylla ) .
Looking up shows the beautiful computer architecture and the glass ceiling that allow these plant to thrive .

Potted tropical carpet slipper orchids(Paphiopedilum)in bloom
improbable tree fern ( probably the genusDicksonia)grow in the conservatory .
As dusk shine , lighting transforms the blank space .
