DIY Potting Bench you can build using fence boards.
This light - to - build potting bench cost us about $ 40 in lumber . My sweet-smelling DIY potting bench has paid for itself ten times over in the five long time since being built .
This garden potting workbench using fencing control panel is my second favorite build to engagement . My first is myGarden Cottage Studiowhich I have named Primrose Cottage .
I have used this bench for many things , an outdoor sideboard when entertaining , a photo prop for flowers , paw paint signs , and to pot up industrial plant .

This is what it is looking like today in January …
This post curb affiliate link , if you make a leverage after clicking a connection I may make a small delegacy at no added cost to you .
But here it is after give it a refresh last summer . Obviously it ask it again . I love the farmhouse bungalow vibe with the galvanized buckets , tubs , and watering cans .

Many have asked for plans but that is hard to create when using fencing boards , they are not uniform in size so we just take a basic design and built it around the 6 cedar fence boards we grease one’s palms .
Measurements
We trace them up and assess across to get the measurements to cut for the framework .
DIY Potting Bench Frames & legs
With 2 x 3 ’s we built these two frames ( you’re able to use 2 x 4 ’s if you ca n’t recover 2 x 3 ’s ) . Next we added the 2 x 4 legs .
We made it a comfortable height for me to form while stand at it . For most folks that is counter top elevation or 36 inches . We glued and get laid everything together . Nothing fancy .
Potting Bench Back
Once we had the legs attached we tolerate it up to lend the fence display panel along the back . Again using wood glue and piece of ass .
Bracing the potting bench
A hybridization piece was tote up to the top material body . The depth was just a measurement we picked that we like and was promiscuous for me to reach , you could adjust to your space or desires .
Shelf
For the shelf , we attached a fence board issue to fit the width of the back of the potting bench to a 2 x 3 then attached the 2 x 3 to the fence board back , we screw it on from the back .
As you could see we also used Ellen Price Wood gum . I mop this up right after this photo .
We lend some metal shelf brackets I had on hand . you’re able to use any brackets you like or make your own .

Work surface
The potting terrace work airfoil is just more fence boards cut to fit and we used pine card for the bottom shelf . We ran out of fencing plank and we had the pine on hand but you could certainly use more cedar fencing board for the bottom as well .
Paint or Stain on the DIY Potting Bench
My DIY potting bench has been through many makeovers and seasons . I have painted it several times , if you prefer to keep it lifelike wood then employ a deck of cards oil or stain with oil .
For me , the best key I have used on this so far has been the Annie Sloan original deoxyephedrine key . It just fades as it ages and does n’t peel or chip like others , even the other chalk - character paints .
Happy Building !
